Donnie Ray Roots, 67 years, 1 month and 21 days of age, of Versailles, formerly of Campbellsville, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at Thomson-Hood Veteran’s Center in Wilmore.
He was born in Campbellsville on June 25, 1950 to the late Charlie F. and Annie Mae Shofner Roots. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Joe Roots.
Donnie worked for Campbellsville Industries until 2010, having worked there for 21 years. At Campbellsville High School he participated in Track and Field and later enjoyed playing softball. He enjoyed all types of athletics and was an avid UK fan. In his past time, he liked to hunt squirrels and make extra money recycling metals.
Donnie is survived by his life partner, Sandra Turner, a brother, Tommy Dean Roots and his wife Linda all of Versailles. He is also survived by his nieces, Shannon and Kayla Roots and a great niece Charsley and great nephew, Alex as well as several cousins.
Funeral services for Donnie Ray Roots will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 21, at Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Diane Munoz officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon National Cemetery in Lebanon.
The family request visitation from 3 -6 p.m. Sunday, August 20, at Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home.
